Johnny’s Tavern has been a staple in Lawrence since 1953 when Mr. John Wilson opened the original Johnny’s Tavern across the river in North Lawrence. Over the past 30 years, Johnny’s has added seven additional locations, and it’s grown from an operation by two single guys who used to play rugby to a full-fledged family with eight partners. Six of the Johnny’s locations are in Kansas City, and in 2009 they crossed the Missouri border and added a tavern in the Power & Light District.
Johnny’s West in Lawrence also opened in 2009, in the former home of J.B. Stout’s Bar & Grill. This west side addition has all the great food we’ve come to expect from Johnny’s- pizza and burgers- along with some more upscale fare. Johnny’s West features 16 HD TV’s for all your game-watching (and live Twitter stream!) needs, and there’s not a bad seat in the house.

March is flying by! Join the Lawrence Tweetup group for the next monthly lunch. Meet other Lawrence social media enthusiasts and connect with new friends!
Our host this month, 23rd Street Brewery, is a local Lawrence brewpub. They not only brew and distribute their own beer, they cater events, host banquets, and raise funds for local charities. 23rd Street Brewery is a member of the Lawrence Originals, a group of local establishments that combine resources and collaborate to provide excellent food and service. They also accept the Lawrence Give Back Card, which makes an automatic charitable donation to the charity of your choice whenever you use it at a participating merchant. If you don’t have a card, be sure to get one (they’re free!) before the lunch tweetup!
23rd Street Brewery has daily $6.95 lunch specials. On Tuesday, the special is a Hazelnut Encrusted Goat Cheese Salad or a Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. If you don’t have to head back to the office, enjoy $6 craft beer pitchers or $4 shots from their special shot list.

We’re excited to announce another event for the Lawrence Tweetup community to attend!
The Fresh Produce Art Collective (@Freshproduceart) presents Re:Fresh! Art Show on Monday, March 15.
The show will be held at the Barrel House (@barrelhousepb). It’s sponsored by Boulevard Brewing Company (@Boulevard_Beer) and features a performance by Jet Set Bachelor.
The art show is from 7 pm to 2 am, and there’s no cover if you get there between 7-8 pm. After 8, there’s a $3 cover charge at the door. But tweet “I want in” to @barrelhousepb and you will get in with no cover and can join others from the Tweetup community in our own VIP Box.

It’s time for another Lawrence Tweetup! Join us for sports, ribs, and rock ‘n roll at Bigg’s Barbecue of Lawrence!

Bigg’s Barbecue offers old fashioned barbecue and 16 TV’s. Their drink specials on Wednesday are $2.50 Mexican beers and $1.99 16 ounce margaritas.

Join your friends, meet new ones, and enjoy some great KU basketball! The Lawrence tweetup group will move into its second year with a game watch party at The Barrel House, a downtown dueling piano bar that will be transformed into a sports bar for the night. KU takes on the Texas A&M Aggies, coached by former Jayhawk Mark Turgeon.

The Barrel House has graciously offered our group the Crown Lounge, a VIP balcony space with a great view of the 150-inch projection screen they’ll have set up for the game. There are three other TV’s in the Crown Lounge area, and many more throughout the bar, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity for the perfect view of the game.
The Barrel House will have $2 almost anything on special Monday night.
Even if you aren’t a sports fan, this is a great chance to meet other local social media users. New faces are always welcome! Feel free to bring your friends, even if they’ve never heard of Twitter.
We also will have specially created Lawrence Tweetup shirts (designed by @BigToddie) available for sale. The shirts are black with long sleeves and a light blue design on the front and back, and they’re $15 each. Sizes small through extra large are available. If you can’t make it to the Tweetup but are interested in a shirt, contact us to make arrangements.

Lawrence Tweetup is One Year Old!
Your favorite local social media meetup group is celebrating its first anniversary! The first Lawrence Tweetup was founded last January and was attended by Ben Smith (@benasmith), Phil Martinez (@philmartinez), Briana Saunders (@briana9), and Michelle Compton (@mcompton). It was located at Borders and lasted for about 2 hours. Afterwards Ben, Phil, and Briana decided to meet regularly and organize the Lawrence Tweetups on a monthly basis. Since then it has been a fun year filled with beer tastings and baseball, picnics and potlucks, and wine and hurricanes. Each month featured a local venue for social media users to meet, eat, and drink. In August, we added a monthly lunch tweetup to give you another opportunity to socialize. And in September, we put on Lawrence’s first Twestival, a charity event that raised over $3000 for the Lawrence Humane Society. Your charitable spirit continued to show at our holiday party in December, where we collected a box full of non-perishable food items for the Ballard Community Center.

The holidays are upon us, Lawrence social media fans! Join your friends and followers and meet some new ones at the Lawrence Tweetup Holiday Party and Potluck.

- Where: Van Go Mobile Arts Inc, located at 715 New Jersey Street
Van Go has a beautiful newly renovated space, and it will be decked out for the holidays. Their holiday art fair will also be open during our event, so you can browse the artwork and get some of your holiday shopping done.
To help celebrate the season of sharing, please bring two things:
- Food or beverage to share. Leave a comment below to let everyone know what you’re bringing, so we don’t end up with 25 bags of chips. (Not that there’s anything wrong with chips…)
- A non-perishable food item to be donated to the Ballard Community Center. They also are always in need of diapers (all sizes) and wipes.
This is a free, family friendly event and kids are welcome to attend, so bring them along for the fun!
Paper plates, napkins, cups, and cutlery will be provided.
The friendly folks at Barnyard Brewery are donating a keg. You can also bring your own wine or other drink if you prefer.
Local businesses are welcome to donate food and/or drink also! Your fans will love you for it, and you’ll probably gain some new ones, too. Just leave a comment below and let us know what you’re bringing.

We are excited to announce that the next Tweetup is located at the The Barrel House on Thursday, November 12th from 7pm – 10pm. If you are not familiar with this establishment it’s a dueling piano bar that they describe as “a unique entertainment experience that mirrors the underground clubs in the 40′s and 50′s that were known as ‘Barrel Houses’”. The Tweetup is free (no cover) and we will have the front lounge area reserved for the occasion. Their drink specials for the evening will be $2.50 Domestic Bottles, $3 Honor Vodka and $3 Jager Bombs.

Are you ready for this month’s Tweetup? Excellent! The October Tweetup is Tuesday the 13th between 6pm- 10pm. This time it is held at the 23rd Street Brewery located by Kasold & Clinton Parkway. A section of the bar will be dedicated to our group along with some great specials. First, if you follow both @Ltwup and @23rd Street Brewery
on Twitter you’ll receive a free pint glass (limited quantity so make sure
you get there early!). Second, you will get to fill that glass with a beer of your choice for $2! In addition, you can also enjoy their regular Tuesday night specials of $15 fishbowl Long Island Iced Tea’s. If you bring your appetite, 23rd Street Brewery will also provide us with a few appetizer specials.
The Tweetups are great way to meet other social media enthusiasts, your followers, and people you follow. The setting is always casual and the people friendly. We hope to see you there!
